In five seasons in the majors, Cabrera has appeared in 174 games, compiling a 13-11 record, 51 strikeouts, three saves and a 4.14 ERA.

In 32 games this season, he has a 5.06 ERA, 1.563 WHIP, 1.7 home runs per nine innings, 5.1 walks and 10.7 strikeouts.

He hasn’t pitched since allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings at home against the Washington Nationals on April 16.

Cabrera’s addition gives Toronto another left-handed bullpen option in Tim Mayza. It gives them more options in their bullpen depending on the matchup.

To make room on the 26-man roster, right-hander Nate Pearson was sent down to Triple-A.

Pearson was 5-2 with a 4.75 ERA in 36 innings pitched in 29 games this season. He suffered a blown save in his seventh start against Seattle on April 23, giving up four runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Aiden Zwelling, a Blue Jays reporter for Canadian sports outlet Sportsnet, said he expected Pearson to make adjustments in Triple-A, particularly with his breaking ball.
