KOVO keeping a close eye on ‘Turkiye Gangjin’ “We will watch the tryout situation”

According to a KOVO official on the 12th, the 2023 men’s foreign player tryout will be held in Turkiye Istanbul from May 5th.

The women’s division will 안전놀이터also have a tryout for foreign players at the same place after the men’s schedule is over.

It is the first time in four years that a tryout has been held overseas since Toronto, Canada in 2019. Since then, due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the tryout was conducted non-face-to-face in Korea.

Each club was also very disappointed because they had to select only the video without seeing the players play in person.

In the end, KOVO and 14 men’s and women’s clubs decided to try out abroad again starting this year, and chose Istanbul, where many foreign players could find it.

However, due to the recent strong earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, KOVO is also closely watching the situation.

On the 6th, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria, killing more than 20,000 people. Accordingly, KOVO is also conducting a fundraising campaign to support the recovery of victims in Turkey and Syria.

An official from KOVO said, “It is very unfortunate that the earthquake occurred in Turkiye,” but “the plan is to hold the tryout in Istanbul if there are no major problems.”

KOVO is also considering Budapest, Hungary, as an alternative location if Turkiye is unavailable. Of course, the change of location is a case of worst-case scenario.

Meanwhile, the V-League will also introduce an Asian quota system for the first time from the 2023-24 season.

Asian Quarter players are also selected through tryouts. It targets 4 East Asian countries (Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan, Hong Kong) and 6 Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar).
