Yvonne Montaño (28, registered name Montaño), a new foreigner at Hyundai Engineering & Construction for women’s professional volleyball, expressed his feelings about joining the team.
Apposite Spiker Montaño signed a contract with Hyundai Engineering & Construction on the 6th as a substitute for Yasmin Bedart (registered name Yasmin). Yasmin failed to complete the season due to a long hiatus due to a back injury 안전놀이터after the Pepper Savings Bank match on December 18 last year.
Montaño, a Colombian national team member, has the advantage of a quick attack. He has a wide field of vision and uses the court cleverly. This season, he has been the main striker for Murat Pasa Belediyeje in the Turkish second division. Holding hands with Hyundai E&C, he strengthened his resolve by watching the confrontation with Heungkuk Life Insurance held in Suwon, his home on the 7th.
Montaño said, “I tried to draft a foreign player in the V-League several times (including this season), but it didn’t go well. I am really happy and excited to finally come to Korea,” he said. I watched Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s game on YouTube, and it was a strong and wonderful team,” he smiled.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction (60 points, 21 wins and 5 losses) has been maintaining first place throughout this season. Heungkuk Life Insurance (60 points, 20 wins and 6 losses) in second place is competing fiercely for rankings. Montaño said, “I thought it would not be easy since I joined in the middle. It’s because I have to show it as a result,” he said. “But I have to carry that burden. I will not give up and I will try to the end,” he raised his voice.
Kang Seong-hyung, head coach of Hyundai E&C, said of Montaño, “He is a top player in terms of offense. He has good technique,” he said. “However, it remains to be seen whether he is suitable for Korean volleyball. The defense in the V-League is very tight. I wonder how much he can break through.” Director Kang said, “Training starts on the 8th. He is looking forward to playing in the next game (against Pepper Savings Bank on the 10th),” he explained.
Montaño said, “As the coach said, Korea has a good defense, so it doesn’t seem easy to attack. I will find a way to overcome it through discussions and training with the coaching staff.” He said, “I really like volleyball. He is a player who works hard for the team, regardless of whether it is practice or actual game. I’m confident,” he said, twinkling his eyes.
